Not sure where to start?
You’re not alone – the process involves more steps than most people expect.
This guide walks you through everything, from finding the right home to getting settled on your new site. It’s what we wish every client read before they called us.
Step 1: Find the Right Home
Start by browsing available homes for removal or relocation (check our Houses For Sale page for current Busby’s listings). Consider the size of your block, council setback requirements and what style of home suits your needs. Queenslanders, transportables and cottage homes all have different structural characteristics.
Step 2: Secure Your Block
You’ll need a block with appropriate council approval for a relocated dwelling. This may include a development approval (DA) and confirmation that the block can accommodate the home’s footprint, including minimum setbacks. Your local council website is a good starting point, and Busby’s can advise based on experience.
Step 3: Get a Quote
Contact Busby’s for a detailed quote. We’ll need to assess the home (current location, size and structure) and the new site (access, distance, stumping requirements). Engineering designs and soil tests can influence costs and need to be completed in the early stages, to ensure you have an accurate quote from Busbys. The more information you can provide, the more accurate we can be.
Step 4: Permits & Approvals
Moving a home requires permits – including transport permits for oversized loads on public roads, and council approvals for the new site. Busby’s handles the logistics of transport permitting. You’ll need to work with your council for any planning approvals specific to your block.
Step 5: The Move
On move day, services are disconnected and the house is prepared for transport. Our team manages the safe loading, transportation and placement on your new site. We’ll communicate timelines with you clearly throughout.
Step 6: Setting Up
Once the home is on site, it’s stumped, levelled and made ready for reconnection of services. From there, you can begin any renovations, fit-outs or finishing work to make the house your own.
